Hurricane Season is Here
Ahhh- the "H" word. Though this “H” word may seem harmless it is known to strike fear into the hearts of Floridians while at the same time exciting meteorologists to the point of standing outside in hundred miles per hour winds. Hurricanes. If you have experienced hurricane season in Florida before than you already know that it is a much a cultural phenomenon as it is a risk of losing your home and everything you own. The ritual of stocking up on bottle water, ply wood, can goods, beer, wine, batteries, cd player, ipod, wine, and anything else you may need in the two weeks it could take for your power to be turned on, if your house is still standing, is taken seriously only by a few Floridians. The rest of us still find it hard to believe that anything could interrupt of long days at the beach and wait until the very last minute to get supplies sacrificing our dignity and sanity. So I say, this year let’s make a vow together to plan ahead and not get in a fight at the grocery store for the last pack of AA batteries. Let’s all watch the paranoid meteorologists on the Weather Channel as dramatic music plays in the background and they predict doom. We have chosen to live in Florida and dealing with Hurricanes is part of the cost, in addition to rising property taxes. This year let’s not be caught by surprise.
